Alex Shelkovnikov
My decision to pursue a research degree with the
Wireless Communications Research Group in the
School of Informatics has proved to be worthwhile. Being a member of one of the leading UK research centres in the design of microwave components for wireless applications (such as WiMAX, Wi-Fi, and satellite systems) enabled me to extend my ideas into achieving novel, sometimes groundbreaking, results. Using the excellent research lab facilities has enabled me to manufacture the designed components, and to gain an important advantage when publishing my work in journals and international conference proceedings.

Being a part-time student at the University of Westminster has been a revelation. Aside from being privy to a campus with an immense range in diversity and age, the University offers great services that are available outside normal office hours. I have made extensive use of the library and could stay overnight to obtain sources for an assignment during the spring when the facilities were open 24 hours.

The University has well-equipped housing facilities. The halls of residence provide an opportunity for students to interact with international students and learn about different cultures and places. I stayed at the Alexander Fleming Hall of Residence at Old Street and made some great friends and have had some memorable moments which I shall cherish for life. The student halls are the best option if you are looking for a home away from home and its the best way to make friends from all over the world.
