Supported self study
Supported Self Study sessions allow you to get help with your IT training tailored to your work or studies. You can:
*Work through online materials at your own pace
*Get advice on how to set up your work in Microsoft Office software, Adobe Creative Suite, Endnote, SPSS and we will help you in learning how to use the software to solve your particular query.
*You may drop in , and use the online training provision, but face to face support is on a first come first served basis to 1 hour
You can also book a one-to-one session with your IT Training Specialist

Adobe Certified Associate Program
Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) demonstrates basic, entry-level skills with Adobe digital media software. Adobe certification is an industry standard qualification and is recognised globally.
ACA certification at the University of Westminster consists of blended learning either as a self supported study programme using Adobe authorised courseware or attending our hands-on scheduled classroom sessions for students.
If you take and pass an exam you will have an Adobe Certified Associate Certificate in that particular application an industry-recognized certification great for your CV!
The training and testing is absolutely free.

Endnote (2 hours)
EndNote helps you organise your references and create bibliographies.
EndNote is most useful for researchers and staff. It has more powerful features than RefWorks, but takes longer to learn how to use.
EndNote software is available on all networked University computers.
You can also buy EndNote at a reduced price to use on your home computer or personal laptop.

EndNote is not available online. If you need to access your stored references from different computers, you may prefer to use RefWorks which is available online.

Microsoft Office Specialist Certification with the IT Training Academy
Microsoft IT Academy offers the opportunity to gain Microsoft Office Certifications in Office 2010 software packages through self study courses. Each Microsoft Office Specialist certificate is a qualification in its own right and you can take just one, or as many as you like.
The Microsoft Office Specialist Qualifications are:
- Microsoft Office Word 2010
- Microsoft Office Excel 2010
- Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2010
- Microsoft Office Access 2010
You must complete the Microsoft Office Word 2010 qualification before undertaking any of the other modules.
To register for the course you will need to come along to an induction session held on Fridays in User Support Room 2, Cavendish Library or email: it.training@westminster.ac.uk
The course is a combination of e-learning and training sessions. You can work through the e-learning software at your own pace and/or attend classes throughout the academic year.
All revision and testing sessions take place on Fridays between 10am and 7pm in User Support Room 2, Cavendish Library. The examination lasts for 50 minutes and takes place online. You will need to pass a mock test with a minimum pass score of 70 per cent, as a pre-requisite to taking the examination.

NVivo
NVivo data analysis software is different to statistical or quantitative software like SPSS, which helps to analyse numerical data. NVivo helps you to access, organize and analyse unstructured information in material like documents, pictures, audio, video, spreadsheets and database tables.
Tutorials are provided via the NVivo web-pages and have been designed to let you work at your own pace

RefWorks
RefWorks helps you to gather, store and manage your references, and use them to create bibliographies. Using RefWorks you can:
- Store your references online, so you can access them from any computer
- Automatically insert them into your work to create bibliographies
- Use RefShare to share your references with others
Log in through your institution (Shibboleth users)
If you are logging in for the first time you will be asked to register. You will receive an email confirming your registration.
How to use RefWorks
Currently there are two versions of RefWorks, the default version is RefWorks 2.0. You can choose to use the older version, RefWorks Classic within the top menu.
You can access tutorials and help guides on RefWorks.
Training Sessions
There will be a series of RefWorks training sessions running in Cavendish Library. So if you want to know how to create an account, manage your references and create a bibliography please contact Aaron Shakespeare - shakesa@westminster.ac.uk - to book a place as places are limited. The session will last approximately an hour.
