The University of Westminster aims to develop an accessible and welcoming estate for its disabled students and staff.
Access to technology
Each of the libraries at the University of Westminster has an Assistive Technology area specifically for students with disabilities. Access to this technology is password protected and students with disabilities are given priority on this equipment. To access this equipment, you'll need to register with a Disability Adviser.
Each library also has a Disability Support Representative who can offer advice and, where practical, make special arrangements to help you use the Library.

Available equipment and software
CCTV text enlarger
Scanner
Microsoft Word
Font size, font colour and background colour can be changed in Word.
Online Dictionary
The Oxford English Dictionary can be searched online via the infoLinX pages and resulting definitions can then be saved to Word.
Kurzweil 3000
This software will read a document out loud enabling the user to proofread. Documents can be scanned in or read from a disk. This software can also read from a webpage and PDF files such as exam papers and journal articles. Kurzweil can enlarge text as well as change font colour.
Inspiration
This software is designed for 'mind mapping'. It allows the user to brainstorm all their ideas for a project and then make links between those ideas to form a plan or framework for the project.
TextHelp! Read and Write
This software will read a document out loud enabling the user to proofread. There is a range of speeds of speech and reading voices to choose from.
Mouse Pointer
Mouse size and shape can be changed within Windows operating systems.
JAWS
This is a screen reader. It operates through extensive keyboard functionality.
Zoomtext
This software magnifies text. The user can magnify a whole screen or move a magnifying 'square' around the screen.
On-screen keyboard
This displays a keyboard that is controlled by a mouse or switch input device.
