Your Research Degree comprises four key stages of study:
- enrolment stage
- registration of the MPhil/PhD
- transfer to PhD
- approval of examination arrangements

The Research Office is responsible for administering your studies, from application and enrolment to examination of your thesis and conferment of your degree. The office also provides guidance and support on all matters relating to your studies.

Research Training Programme
All research degree students are required to undertake the University Research Training Programme which seeks to develop and to record relevant generic and research skills.

Students who are engaged in teaching or related academic activity are required to undertake an appropriate training course before they start teaching. This is monitored through the University Research Training Programme. For more details, visit the ‘Supporting Learning (Training for Teaching)’ page on the Research Students Blackboard Site (note that you will need to log in to Blackboard to visit this site).
Research Committees
The University's research degree provision is overseen by a number of Committees.
Research Students’ Forum
The University has a Research Students’ Forum where you can participate and contribute to current issues affecting research students at the University. More information is available on the Research Students Blackboard Site.

Regulations, policies, codes and procedures
During your time with us, you’ll need to refer to various key documents, such as the Research Degree Regulations and related codes of practice.

You’ll also need to refer to and submit a number of key documents relating to the Registration stage of your studies, eg the Application to Register Form, Ethical Approval Application Form, and Assignation of Intellectual Property Rights form.
