BMus Commercial Music Performance

This innovative course is for people aiming for careers as performers, composers and educators in popular music. It adds professional performance practice to the specialisms in production and business already offered by the successful Commercial Music degree which was pioneered at the University of Westminster in 1993.

Students cultivate high-level instrumental, group performance and composition/devising skills, and these are supported by a contextual programme which covers musicology, music business and music education. The course aims to equip performing musicians with all the practical, conceptual and commercial abilities needed by those working in todays fast-changing music industry.

Specialising in performance, composition or music education in their final year, students develop a portfolio of work and experience which will be equally relevant for careers in music or for further study at postgraduate level.

Offering first-rate tuition from leading practitioners, the course's strong industry links provide excellent opportunities for graduates to enter the workplace. It is complemented by its relationship with an exciting array of existing programmes including BA Commercial Music, BSc Music Informatics, MA Audio Production and MBA Music Business Management. A vibrant creative atmosphere is supported by Radio TV and Film departments working together to produce broadcast-quality collaborations.
