Admissions
The commercial music degree is the first in the UK to offer an opportunity to learn, practice and experiment with the artistic and business strategies in today's music industry. The course welcomes applicants with a business or music production background.
The course benefits from close links with the music industry and its students leave well prepared for a creative career as music business professionals. The course is advised by a team of leading figures and draws on musicians and business people active in Europes music capital for its teaching staff.
The degree allows students some scope in building their own programme in both music production and music business, drawing on current and historical practice to provide a stimulating context in which to create and promote music. As part of the 1998 Teaching Quality Assessment exercise, BA(Hons) Commercial Music was rated with an excellent score of 23 out of a possible 24 points.
Entry Requirements
Entry is by interview and business presentation for music business candidates and by audition for music production candidates. Candidates with professional experience, with and without conventional academic qualifications, are strongly encouraged to apply and will be asked to exhibit their work at audition or interview. Any evidence of relevant work experience is strongly considered. All candidates should show an intelligent approach to their work in commercial music, a strong sense of purpose and an ability successfully to complete the course.
