MA Journalism (Print and Online)

An intensely practical course which will equip you for a career in journalism in the UK. You will learn the reporting skills required for a good journalist, writing for newspapers, magazines as well as multi-media skills for the web, filing stories for our journalism website:
Taught by experienced industry professionals, youll use the latest industry soft-ware to produce newspaper, magazine and web-pages, as well as a high-quality team produced magazine. You will also study shorthand, media law and public affairs, and can also acquire the skills of a specialist correspondent but choosing choose from a variety of specialist options. Our graduates successfully build careers in UK magazines, newspapers and multi-platform media.
Course content
Semester One modules:
- News and Feature Writing
- Journalism Skills A critical approach to acquiring the skills and techniques of contemporary journalism
- Theory and Practice of Journalism a grounding in media law and public affairs.
Theres a slot for a work placement in January between the two Semesters, and Shorthand classes run throughout both Semesters.
Semester Two Modules:
- Internet Production managing and providing content for Westminster News Online
- Specialist Journalism: we offer travel, environmental , business, investigative, medical, sports and arts and entertainment journalism.
- Magazine project producing a glossy professional standard magazine and website.
During the summer months print students work on their MA Final Project which can be either a 12, 000 word professional standard journalism portfolio or a 15,000 word Dissertation
