About “Varia”, the SSHL On-line Graduate Journal

The SSHL Graduate journal is a refereed online journal produced by and for research students of the SSHL.

The journal seeks to provide the opportunity for research students to complement their regular Research Training Programme activities in a supportive academic environment and with the aim of gaining experience of the submission of articles to scholarly journals.

Call for contributions

Contributions in all disciplines of the School are welcome:

  • Politics and International Relations
  • English Literature and Philosophy
  • Social Sciences
  • Psychology
  • Linguistics
  • Visual Culture
  • Modern Languages

Students who have already given a presentation / wish to give a presentation at the SSHL Graduate Forum are invited to submit an article of 3000-5000 words in length. For notes for contributors see the Notes for Contributors link.

Contributions from students outside the University of Westminster will be considered for some issues.

SSHL Graduate Journal Issue no.1

Extended deadline for submissions: 18 December 2009

We are now seeking for further submissions for inclusion in issue 1 (general issue) of the SSHL Journal. Students are invited to submit an article of 3000-5000 words in length. We would also be happy to receive conference reports or book reviews.

Submission of articles for Issue no.2

The Journal is conceived as a combination of general and themed issues. Some of the themes currently being considered for the next (themed) issue are:

"Topology and Culture"

"Patterns"

"Space"

A call for papers for issue no. 2 will be publicised here in due course.
