Security and International Relations

The Security and International Relations programme was established in Spring 2010 to bring together and provide an external focus for the extensive research undertaken within the Department of Politics and International Relations in the area security studies and International Relations.

There are four main areas of research within the programme:

  • International Relations theory with particular focus on just war and security theory.
  • Security and resilience. This includes research on the security of global energy systems.
  • Borders and Identities. This includes work on such issues as immigration, border and identity disputes between India and China and Muslim identities within Russia.
  • Intervention and State Building. This includes the journal Intervention and Statebuilding which is edited by Professor David Chandler within the department.

The programme includes regular seminars and events and a number of associated PhD students.
