Educated at the Sharif University of Technology (Tehran) and the Universities of Tehran and London, Ali Paya is a Senior Research Associate and Visiting Professor at CSD and Associate Professor of Philosophy at the National Research Institute for Science Policy in Iran.

His most recent books Analytic Philosophy and Philosophical Analysis: Fresh Problems and New Prospects (2009), Iraq, Democracy and the Future of the Muslim World (joint editor with John Esposito)(2009), Habermas in Iran (jointly written with Mohammad Ghaneirad) (2009), Technology, Culture and Ethics (2009), Socio-Ethical Consequences of Convergent Technologies (jointly written with Reza Kalantarinezhad) (2009), University, Scientific Thinking, Innovation and the Public Sphere (2006), Analytic Philosophy: Problems and Prospects (2004). His articles on a variety of theoretical and applied subjects have appeared in International Journal for the Philosophy of Science, International Journal of Applied Philosophy, American Journal of Islamic Social Sciences, Journal of Islamic Studies, Journal of Law and Religion, Seminar, and Learning for Democracy as well as in a number of books and anthologies including Muslim Identity in the Twenty First Century: The Challenges of Modernity (2000), Exploring Civil Society: Political and Cultural Contexts (2003), Islamic Democratic Discourse: Theory, Debates, and Philosophical Perspectives (2006), Karl Popper: A Centenary Assessment (2007), Playing by the Rules of the Game (2008), Transition to Democracy (2009) Dr Paya is currently working on three books each related to one of his main fields of interest (Philosophy of Science and Technology, Modern Islamic Thought, and Cultural Studies): The Popperians: Dialogue with Popper’s Most Distinguished Disciples; Muslim Intellectuals: The Case of Iran; and Realism and Truth.
