Bilingual Examinations
Since 1995 the University of Westminster has delivered a suite of language examinations in 47 languages at 4 levels to the British Ministry of Defence. These examinations are also calibrated against the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The examinations assess the candidate's ability to operate between 2 languages in a military environment using a range of practical task. The examinations are designed to test levels SLP 1 to SLP 4. The examinations assess the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing and are modularised, i.e. each skill can be taken separately. This enables candidates to sit a 'jagged' profile, i.e. SLP 2211.
Examination Formats
The examination titles are:
SLP 1 - Survival
SLP 2 - Functional
SLP 3 - Advanced Certificate
SLP 4 - Diploma
Each examination paper is designed to reflect the current military and security situation. The University of Westminster is able to adapt both the examination format and content to meet the specific needs of the customer.
Costs and Delivery
The examinations are delivered worldwide by our team of examiners. Costs are available on request and depend on the examination location and volume of candidates.
Accreditation
Candidates who successfully achieve a First or Second Class Diploma Pass (a minimum standard of 2 skills at SLP 3 and 2 skills at SLP 4) may apply for accreditation towards the MA in International Liaison and Communication.
