Welcome from the Dean

GRAHAM-MEGSON_01 Welcome to the University of Westminster, School of Electronics and Computer Science. Our School incorporates a unique mix of skills in Electronic, Network and Computer Engineering, Interactive Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Business Systems, making it well placed to both develop and exploit the emerging technologies that will play a key role in defining the way society uses technology well into this century. The emphasis on our courses is in developing your applied skills and preparing you for professional life in Computing, Electronics or Multimedia industry.

The School was formed in 2009 following recognition by the University of the significant opportunities available both in teaching, research, and knowledge transfer from a greater degree of integration between the former School of Informatics and the Harrow School of Computer Science. The School operates over two sites one based in New Cavendish Street, Central London and one based in Harrow. Our city location in the heart of the UK provides excellent employment opportunities.

We offer a wide range of undergraduate degree courses, including single subject Electronic Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Computer Networks and Communications, Computer Network Security, Media Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Science, and Business Information Systems as well as courses with other subjects, such as Mobile and Web Computing, Computer Games Development, Multimedia and Animation. Many of our courses allow a wide choice of options, once your knowledge and interests in essential topics in the subject are firmly established.

Our research is focused in the four main areas of Computational Systems Engineering, Semantic Computing, Electronic & Communication Systems, and Health Care Informatics. We are the only London partner of the UK National Grid Service (high performance Computing) and host the very successful Centre of Excellence for Advanced IT which operates as a knowledge transfer hub for North-West London. Staff maintain international levels of research activity at the leading edges of their fields which provides opportunities for research training and postgraduate (PhD) studentships.  A number of lecturers have registered patents particularly in Digital Signal Processing and Architecture work.

The School also runs MSc programmes which combine teaching of state-of-the-art subject matter with an opportunity to engage in stimulating and industrially relevant research. The courses are available in a variety of delivery modes to suit the way you live and work.

Please look at this site to find out more about the variety of high quality undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses you can study, our international recognised research and our work with industry.
