  • The Rough Guide to Community Asset Management (2005)

The Rough Guide is a supportive resource, not a specific plan to follow. It is intended to help provide clarity and perspective to those engaged in or considering engaging in a community-based programme or project. It is not seen as a sequential process in which each step needs to be followed one after another. The Rough Guide is presented as a resource that others can draw inspiration and lessons from in addressing problems particular to the context they are working within and the conditions faced, at whatever stage of a project they might be.

 

  • Living on the Edge (2001)

A 15 minute video made over 5 years telling the story of slum-dwellers cleared from the heart of New Delhi to a marginal location.

 

  • Pramaan (2001)

This 17 minute video outlines the partnership between a small team of professionals, local government and users of a primary school. The repair of the school is used as an opportunity to provide training in ‘community asset management’ methods.

 

  • Community Asset Management booklets and manuals (2005)

A practical guide produced by Dr Mike Theis and Ripin Kalra for policymakers in Asia and Africa in understanding the processes, and apply the principles of Community Asset Management (CAM), for the life-cycle management of essential community buildings.

 

  • Urban Livelihoods (2002)

The book outlines the ‘livelihoods approach’ to poverty reduction. Edited by Carol Rakodi with Tony Lloyd-Jones, Earthscan publications.

 

  • Vidyalayam (1996)

This 17 minute video uses examples from India to outline cost-effective methods to build primary schools.

 

  • Improving Knowledge Transfer (2000)

A set of eight guides produced by the Max Lock Centre to improve the exchange and transfer of knowledge gathered and generated by researchers to benefit the urban poor.

 

  • Participatory Approach to Core Area Development (2000)

A set of eleven guides produced by Tony Lloyd-Jones, Dr Mike Theis and Sarah Carmona to good practice in city centre redevelopment to ensure and protect the interests of the poor.

 

  • Planning in Cities (2002)

It is a study about sustainability and growth in the developing world which bridges theory and practice to explore the conflicting challenges to the design of effective urban planning policies and management strategies, edited by Roger Zetter and Rodney White. Published by ITDG.
