Construction

The department offers construction courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The courses are designed to provide a professionally oriented education producing graduates capable of dealing with the technological and managerial processes associated with the production and post-construction life of buildings.

At undergraduate level we offer RICS accredited honours degree courses in Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying and Building Control Surveying. The courses are offered in full time (three year) and part time (five year) modes, with the option of a year spent in professional practice or industry on the full time courses. The modular nature of the courses allows for transfer between full time and part time modes at suitable points in the course.

At postgraduate level we have an extensive track record of delivering part time Masters courses. We have recently reviewed our postgraduate construction programme and have introduced innovative new MSc courses in Construction Project Management and Construction Commercial Management. These courses are delivered in a blended learning mode which exploits the benefits of web-based delivery and provides significant flexibility for students in full time employment.

Part Time Construction Courses

A particular strength of our construction courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels is our commitment to part time delivery. We recognise the significant challenges which students face in combining full time professional employment with part time study. Academic staff have extensive experience in dealing with the particular needs of part time students. At undergraduate level our course timetables ensure that part time students only have to attend on one day per week. At postgraduate level, our blended learning approach means that students are only required to attend on one evening per week.
