Imaging Technology Research Group
The Imaging Technology Research Group of the School of Media, Arts and Design, is part of the Computer Vision and Imaging research group, comprising also of the Computer Vision Group, of the Harrow School of Computer Science.
The ITRG is an interdisciplinary group of researchers that provides a synthesis between the scientific disciplines associated with the quantification of images and imaging systems. The group has much experience and expertise in the physical measurement of image and imaging system characteristics and has laboratories equipped with the relevant apparatus that enable physical attributes of images and systems to be quantified. The inter-relationships between physical measures and subjective measures of image quality are undertaken as major activities of the work of the group.
Research areas
- quantification of imaging system performance
- digital image quality
- image analysis and image processing
- colour imaging
- digital image collections and archives
- internet imaging
- scene grouping and classification
- medical and forensic imaging
The group has benefited from close links and joint research projects with the Royal Photographic Society in Bath, Hewlett Packard research laboratories in Bristol, the Home Office Police Scientific Branch in St. Albans, Unilever, Colorite and Weetabix. Furthermore, the group has gained twice in recent years (2003 and 2005) SRIF funding from the Higher Education Research Funding from England.
The ITRG is submitting with the Harrow School of Computer Science (HSCS) for the RAE 2008.
Members of the ITRG staff are also involved in the teaching of the BSc in Photography & Digital Imaging, BSc in Clinical Photography and the MSc in Digital & Photographic Imaging.
