Aim of study

The overall aim of the thesis was to research into cinematography (the photographic practice used in creating the film image) in the Greek features of the mid-90s, to speculate on their aesthetic level and define the historical conditions of the time.

My PhD experience

The PhD was the most challenging intellectual experience of my life.
I feel grateful to the university and, at the moment, have a great nostalgia for the Harrow Campus and its Library. Also, my supervisors were among the most intelligent and efficient persons I have ever met in my life.

However, I had to deal with some issues like:

  • The differences between the Greek way of thinking and the British academic spirit
  • My partial lack of knowledge on the tradition of film studies as taught in England
  • My erroneous decision to return and write the final drafts in Greece (due to financial reasons)
  • The fact that I had a Greek subject to research, dozens of Greek interviews to make, hundreds of Greek films to watch and Greek books to read …and an English text to provide at the end.

Current position

Lecturer in Screenwriting and Video Production
Department of Cultural Technology and Communication,
University of the Aegean, Greece

Also, I work as chief editor in Film & VideoBusiness magazine and as film director in short films, documentaries and commercials.
