Funding

The Institute is funded partly by income from the teaching and research grants made to the University by the Higher Education Funding Council for England and partly from undertaking research contracts for outside sponsors.

The latter include a wide range of bodies, including, among others:
  • official organisations: the European Union, Ofcom, and the Department of Culture, Media and Sport;
  • media companies and corporations: the BBC and several telecommunications companies;
  • scholarly sponsors: the Economic and Social Research Council and the Arts and Humanities Research Council
  • foundations and NGOs: the Rockefeller Foundation and the World Association for Christian Communication.
