Business Psychology
Members of the Business Psychology Group are Steve Benton, Chantal Gautier, John Golding, Judith Okonkwo, Ben Ward and Ayleen Wisudha.
Research within the business psychology group is closely linked to the Business Psychology Centre which works in partnership with organisations, applying business psychology to the workplace, linking personal competence to organisational competence. The Business Psychology Centre (BPC): An agent of knowledge transfer based upon a blend of disciplines such as Human factors, informatics and Business Psychology. Director Professor S. Benton. The BPC have held the focus on 'people matters' within diverse professions by introducing them to the Bpsy model. This was achieved by organising and co delivering a series of innovative 'firsts' in the form of conferences and knowledge sharing workshops.We partnered the Engineering Forum for Project Management (EFPM) to deliver the 'Behave Yourself ' Conference Sept 13, 2005, and again on 21 Feb 2006, to deliver the i behave workshops and learning courses while working with the UK Facilitators Network to deliver the 'Behavioural Technology' conference on February 24th, in 2006), the focus was showing how research grounded psychology has a central role in deconstructing behavioural blocks to workplace performance and personal development.
More recently the BPC hosted the first Postgraduate Business Psychology Conference held February 2008.
Current projects include:
1) Knowledge Transfer Partnership - August 2009 Awarded 155 K to partner a company PAERS to work on enabling patients to more easily access their medical records using Information Technology and the World Wide Web.
2) EU 7th Framework Programme on Research, Technological Development and demonstration PERFORM: (AWARDED 200K euros, October 2007-A Multi-Parametric System for the Continuous Assessment and Monitoring of Motor Status in Parkinson's disease and other Neurodegenerative Diseases.The BPC is working with partners in Informatics (UW) to create wireless wearable micro technology that monitors and supports individuals' behaviours in order to log core physiological parameters while supporting patient's behavioural coping.Duration 36 months. Joint Award with Professor Kambiz Madani (Informatics Department).
3) LDA May-2007. Awarded 14K from the London Development Agency (LDA) to partner a company (Springboard Ltd) in the design and development of a software based behavioural profiler to support Organisational Diagnosis. Duration: 9 months
4) Knowledge Transfer Partnership - DTI Oct-2006- Awarded 161 K to partner a company (Insights Learning and Development Ltd) in the design and development of a psychometric tool capable of assisting in the recognition of individual differences in support of organisational performance AND culture. Duration: 33 months
5) ESRC’s New Dynamics of Ageing research programme (2008-11) . Awarded £765K in partnership with the Universities of Wales; Manchester and Belfast. Topic: Design for Ageing Well: Improving the Quality of Life for the Ageing Population: Development of a Technologically Enhanced Garment System.
6) Westminster Exchange Award (£9,800). Core Skill Competences for Employability: Nurturing our students towards fitness.
7) Technology Strategy Board Award: Assisted Living (2011-2013): Awarded £82,000 Economic and Business Models, and Social & Behavioural Studies. TSB Application Number: 25194. Project Title: DAP Connect - Toolkits for Assisted Living.
