The African Media Centre builds on work done by members of the University of Westminster’s top-rated Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI), a leading global centre for research on communication media and social change and the Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media (CREAM), also a leading centre for research in visual media, arts, design and music.

The University of Westminster also has an Africa Interest Group (AIG) which has promoted education links with African institutions. MAD members of the AIG include Peter Goodwin, the current MAD School Research Director, Jane Thorburn (CREAM), Maria Way (CAMRI) and Winston Mano (CAMRI).

The Africa Media Centre’s main objective is to promote top quality research, host conferences, workshops, seminars, guest lectures and collaborative research projects. It will encourage networking of media scholars, practitioners, policy-makers and students of African film, media and communication.
