Vice-chancellor – is the Chief Executive Officer of the university and is the most senior member of the university staff.

Court of Governors - is the institution's governing body. It meets five times a year. The Court of Governors is ultimately responsible for the effective conduct of the activities of the University, including itsstrategic development, its educational character and mission, and its financial health. Governors also act as ambassadors in the community and promoting the University's interests generally.

University Executive Board – is a committee of the Court of Governors, as approved 12 May 2008. From September 2008, the University Executive Board (UEB) replaces the Vice-Chancellor’s Executive Group (VCEG). Its composition and terms of reference are as follows:-

Terms of Reference

  1. To articulate, consider and recommend new and revised University level strategies, plans and policies to the Court of Governors or Academic Council for approval, as appropriate;
  2. To ensure the implementation of University strategies, plans and policies across the University;
  3. To communicate UEB decisions across the University;
  4. To ensure the effective strategic management of the University’s financial, human and physical resources;
  5. To ensure that the University conducts its business with efficiency, effectiveness and economy;
  6. To set targets and benchmarks for the University and the Schools and monitor their achievement;
  7. To advise on the preparation of the annual revenue and capital budgets, for approval by Finance and Property Committee and the Court;
  8. To consider and make decisions on the allocation of resources to Schools, departments and units;
  9. To review and respond to issues, both internal and external, as appropriate to the University;
  10. To refer issues to other committees, groups or individuals, as appropriate, or constitute ad hoc groups for specific tasks, and receive reports and approve recommendations from these groups, including those committees and groups reporting directly to the UEB;
  11. To consider the establishment and filling of posts and promotions at the level of Principal Lecturer or a Corporate Services Director and above, where these deviate from agreed annual plans.

As a committee of the Court of Governors, UEB reports and makes recommendations to the Court and to the Strategic Planning and Resources Committee on matters within its remit.
