Speaker: We’re now on the fifth floor up at Harrow and this is one of four new floors that we’ve created within A Block, which is the tower block up at Harrow and this is a floor that we’re using for the fashion students and it’s their new home since they’ve relocated from the old temporary tent building.
New Speaker: We’ve been working on this for, I think about a year maybe before we started any work on it at all, working with the Estates Team and the users of MAD to understand exactly what they want out of the campus, to understand exactly what the students want out of the campus.
Student: I think it’s brining us altogether more because it’s quite like just one big space instead of two little spaces.
Student: Yes, you’re right, I’m really enjoying it and the light’s good, a lot better than the tent.
Student: Yes it’s much better.
Student: It’s great, I love it up here.
Student: Because it’s bigger.
Speaker: I suppose behind us, currently known as The Street, will be completely reformed under the project and will become known as the Learning Link. It will link to the lower part of the site up to a rear courtyard. The steps and ramps that you see behind me will be leveled out and the entrance into the building behind me, A Block, will be at this lower level rather than up where it is at present. All of this, which is currently The Street, will be protected from the elements and completely covered over in the way that we form this in the new project.
New Speaker: It just means the space is, you know they’ve got transparent classrooms, a big lecture open space lecture areas and what that means, it promotes student talent across our amazing media arts and design school.
Student: It’s exciting, because it’s new and it’s warm and it’s light.
Student: There’s all sorts of little nooks and crannies and dark spaces and individual rooms that we can use if we need to and we’ve got a computer lab up here and there’s workshops and things that are being put in as well, so everything’s really nicely contained now.
New Speaker: One of the great things that’s going to happen with this new development in The Street is that all our activities are going to be visible and that will make a very exciting environment for people and it will be the building that will help us to do what we’ve always wanted to do, which is encourage students to work together, to collaborate, to appreciate each other, to do all the kinds of things they’re going to have to do when they leave us and enter the creative industries and the building’s going to make that so possible for us.
