CILEx Level 3 Certificate in Law and Practice

This course is the first year of Level 3 studies. It is completed in one academic year and is suitable for students who have no previous formal academic qualifications or legal experience. However, CILEx (formerly known as ILEX) recommends students possess English ‘O’ level or its equivalent.
This course guarantees 120 hours of tuition (including mocks and feedback) in addition to pastoral care and regular access to a personal tutor throughout the academic year. The course consists of some periods of independent guided study.
You will attend classes during term-time from 5.30pm to 9pm on Monday evenings.Course content
We offer the following Units for study:
- Introduction to Law and Practice;
- Law of Tort;
- Criminal Law;
- Criminal Litigation; and
- Legal Research.
In order to successfully complete the CILEx Certificate and Professional Diploma In Law and Practice, it is necessary that you undertake all units of study.
For students who are not working towards the CILEx Certificate and Professional Diploma In Law and are therefore not seeking to become qualified lawyers, subjects can be taken in isolation.
Please note due to the combination of studies, you will receive your Certificate and Professional Diploma in Law upon completion of Level 3, Year 2 studies.
Term dates
Teaching Semesters Commence week beginning Monday 1 October 2012.
Semester One
1 October – 7 December 2012; and 2 January – 11 January 2013.
Semester Two
14 January – 22 March 2013; and 15 April – 3 June 2013.
Please note there will be no teaching on public bank holidays.

Instalment options available
In addition to paying our tuition fee, you will be required to pay CILEx:
- a registration fee;
- examination fee in respect of each exam/assessment you are sitting; and
- purchase the mandatory ITC manual in relation to each unit of CILEx study.

Entry requirements
In order to qualify as a Legal Executive Lawyer, you must:
- be over 18 years old;
- have registered as a member with The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx);
- have registered with CILEx for entry to and have successfully passed the Level 3 Certificate and Diploma in Law and Practice examinations (equivalent to A Level standard) and either Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice examinations (equivalent to degree level standard) or Level 6 Graduate Fast-Track Diploma.
You will also need to complete five years qualifying employment. Specific details may be found on the CILEx website.
