How to apply

You can make an application to take the IELTS test either online, by post or in person. Download the detailed application and payment instruction for 2014 tests.

Online application

Apply and pay online

Once you apply online you will be required to make an online payment and email us the following within three calendar days:

  • the receipt number
  • a copy of a valid identification document , which must be of the same passport or EU national identity card selected in the application. The copy must show your picture, name, date of birth, passport or ID number, signature and expiry date.

Please include all copies in one file. Applications for which we do not receive the necessary documents within three calendar days will be cancelled without notice and payments will be subject to our three-week cancellation policy (see below).

Test availability varies from day to day. We take no responsibility for applications that go missing in the post or that are held up by Royal Mail due to incorrect or incomplete address, or underpaid postage.

Our opening hours are: Tuesday 1–2pm, Wednesday 1–2pm, Thursday 4–5pm and Friday 11am–1pm.

You must bring with you:

  1. One of the following identity documents:
    • a valid passport.
    • a national ID card (EU nationals only)
    • certificate of registration from the police
  2. A photocopy of the above document.
  3. Payment (postal order or credit card). We do not accept cash or cheque payments.

We regret we cannot register you without one of the identification documents listed above. All identification documents must be originals.

Payment can be made by credit or debit card (Visa, MasterCard or Solo/Maestro), or postal order (payable to 'University of Westminster').

Please note that we do not accept cash payments, American Express, Visa Electron or swipe-only cards. Please make sure your card is not one of the above as you will lose your place if your card is not accepted. We cannot process your application until we have received full payment.

Group bookings

We welcome group bookings (10 or more candidates) well in advance from institutions. For further information please contact us. Smaller groups can book online here.

UK and visas immigration applications

We are also able to accept English language testing applications from UK and Visas Immigration applicants who have recently taken an English language test in the UK or Ireland with another SELT provider, and who are now required to submit other evidence of English language proficiency.

Results

Results will be available online from 10am on the 13th calendar day after each test (usually a Friday). The Test Report Forms will be available for collection from our office at 32–38 Wells Street, London W1T 3UW, between 11am and 1pm on the 13th calendar day after the test. When collecting your results you must bring an appropriate ID. Results not collected by 1pm on this day will be sent to each candidate’s address by Royal Mail first class post.

Test cancellation and transfer

Requests can only be made more than three weeks before the test date. They must be put in an email and received by 3pm on the Friday three weeks before your test date. There is a £40 admin fee for cancellations and transfers.
