Knowledge transfer partnerships
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) are a UK-wide, government-funded activity that helps organisations to improve their competitiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills that reside within the UK knowledge base. KTP is regarded as one of Europes most successful grant initiatives available to organisations.
Over the last 15 years, the KTP Unit has successfully managed a range of Knowledge Transfer Partnership programmes. To view some of our past programmes, click here.
The partners in each Knowledge Transfer Partnership are:
- the organisation this is typically a company (including not-for-profit) but can also be a health or education organisation, charity, local authority etc. KTPs are open to organisations of all sizes in most sectors. Over recent years, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) have comprised the majority of participating organisations.
- the knowledge-base this is a higher education institution, e.g. university, college or research and technology organisation.
- the KTP Associate a recently qualified graduate in an appropriate subject.
There are three main purposes to the partnerships:
- to facilitate the transfer of technology and/or knowledge and the spread of technical and business skills;
- to stimulate and enhance business-relevant research and training undertaken by the knowledge base;
- to provide company-based training for Associates to enhance their business and specialist skills whilst utilising their technical/specialist ability.
