The University of Westminster's Old Cinema is the birthplace of British cinema. In 1896, the Lumière brothers put on the first public show of moving pictures in the UK in what is now an historic exhibition, event and lecture space.
Just minutes from Oxford Circus, the Old Cinema is a twentieth century theatre with capacity to seat up to 350 people. It has retained its balcony, stage and gold plated decorated ceiling. Audio-visual equipment, including a projector, screen and sound system, are available for screenings of multimedia content. The space is wheelchair accessible.
The Regent Street cinema is currently the focus of a refurbishment campaign; learn more about the project to restore the cinema to its original glory.
