Nutritional therapy can identify potential nutritional imbalances and how these may contribute to symptoms. Nutritional therapy aims to provide individual personalised nutrition and lifestyle advice to support the maintenance of health.
Consultations
In advance of a consultation, you will be asked to complete a Nutritional Therapy Questionnaire and three-day food diary to provide some initial details about your medical history, health concerns, lifestyle and goals, current diet and eating patterns. At your first appointment, the nutritional therapy student practitioner will go through your questionnaire with you and discuss the factors that may be contributing to your health situation.
After your first appointment, the student practitioner will use the information they have gathered from you to research and define a staged diet and lifestyle programme which they will discuss with you at your second appointment approximately two weeks later. Written guidelines will be given. Your programme may include recommendations regarding nutritional supplements and tests.
We advise follow up appointments are made to monitor progress and make adjustments to the staged programme as needed. The number of follow-up appointments required to address health concerns will vary.
As the Polyclinic is a teaching clinic, your consultations will be observed by students either in the consulting room, or via live video link, although nothing is recorded. We also contact your General Practitioner to let them know you are attending the clinic. All students work under the direct supervision of an experienced nutritional therapy clinic tutor.
