History
Historians at the University of Westminster have a wide variety of research interests embracing economic, political and social history. Particular specialisms include:
- social change and urban change in twentieth-century Britain (Mark Clapson)
- film and propaganda (Martin Doherty)
- women and professional work in late nineteenth- and twentieth-century Britain and Canada (Helen Glew)
- the Suez Crisis (Anthony Gorst)
- maritime and business history (Richard Harding)
- French economic history (Frances Lynch)
Additionally, the history team at Regent Street has interests in:
- American influences on British cities (Mark Clapson)
- modern Irish history (Martin Doherty and Patrick Smyllie)
- history of the University of Westminster (Anthony Gorst and Helen Glew)
- European taxation systems (Frances Lynch)
- Religious history (Charles Sandeman-Allen)
- European integration and European political history
We are an active and highly motivated team, delivering popular undergraduate modules within an undergraduate degree that continues to gain the approval of both students and external examiners. A number of us teach to some of our research specialisms in our modules, and are currently planning to increase the number of our PhD students.
