Illness perceptions; treatment beliefs & experiences; chronic illness; children’s health; complementary medicine; well-being; mindfulness.

Background Information

Tina studied Psychology and Sociology at the University of Leeds and undertook her PhD at Oxford Brookes University. She lectured at the University of Bath before joining the Psychology department at the University of Westminster in 2001. Her teaching is principally in the area of Health Psychology and she is Deputy Course Leader and Admissions tutor for the MSc Health Psychology.

Her research uses a variety of methodological approaches to explore the ways in which people make sense of chronic illness, make health care choices and evaluate their treatment (allopathic or complementary). A key objective of these projects is to inform healthcare provision through better understanding the experiences of having specific long-term conditions. She is also currently involved in several funded projects which explore factors affecting well-being through the lifespan, with a recent focus on wellbeing in men (with Damien Ridge). Tina currently supervises three PhD students and is the Research Student Coordinator for Psychology.
