Wednesday 8 February – CAN FILM FESTIVAL - Wall-E
Free Cinema Screening of Fyvie Hall, Regents Street, Wednesday 6.30pm – ‘Empties for Entries’ Free entry with 10 empty drinks cans!
Come and exchange your empty drinks cans for a free ticket to our Green Week cinema screening of Wall-E. Bring along 10 empty cans (minimum) and see this critically acclaimed blockbuster on the big screen for free.
Where is the screening?
The film screening will be taking place at our Regent St Campus, in Fyvie Hall on the Ground Floor. (You can see it on a map here)
Do I have to pay for the film?
The film is being shown in the Can Film Festival, as part of UoW’s Go Green Week, so it’s free, but you need to bring 10 empty drinks cans to get free entry.
Can I buy extra tickets?
There are no paying tickets for this screening – By asking you to bring along at least 10 drinks cans to recycle, we aim to help you think about what you throw away, and what can be recycled, and so help you reduce your personal waste.
Can I bring my mum / brother / friend who’s not a student?
People from outside the university are welcome to come along - they should bring their empty cans, and sign in at the reception on arrival.
Should I book a place?
The venue for the film is a large space (in the Fyvie Hall, Ground floor309 Regent’s Street), so provided you’re not late, there should be no need to book a place – there should be room for us all!
What time does it start?
Doors will open at 6.30, please arrive then so we can count your cans and you can get a good seat.
We hope to provide some light refreshments for your enjoyment, and will start the film at 6.45pm.
Where is it showing?
We’re showing the screening in the Fyvie Hall, 309 Regent’s Street.
Can I bring any other cans?
We would prefer you to bring drinks cans, but if you only have food cans these are also fine! If you have any other questions, please email m.mackeith@westminster.ac.uk
Thursday 9 Feb – Big Switch Off
Start making the changes for tomorrow by acting today!
On average UK households spend £35 a year each powering appliances left in standby mode. This is the energy used by certain appliances when they are not in use and not switched off at the plug. That’s quite a lot of money to spend powering the lights on your digibox!
Think of all the electrical appliances you own – phone? Laptop? MP3 player? Digital camera? TV? digibox? DVD player? Hair straighteners? The list is endless...
Join in with our switch off campaign by making sure that you switch off your appliances at the plug – Today we’re reminding you to really think about what you need to have plugged in, and switch everything else off at the plug.

Watch this space to find out our how University of Westminster will be taking part in the National Day of Action. Our university’s Pro Vice Chancellor will be signing up to the national petition, and we’re asking you to follow in her footsteps!
Environmental Managers and VCs from across the UK will be signing up to a petition which recognises that when he came to power David Cameron promised that this Government would be the ‘Greenest Government ever’, and Myszka Guzkowska, our University’s Pro Vice Chancellor will be signing up too.
We’re asking you to step up to the example set by Myszka, and email David Willets yourself, to Demand the “greenest government ever” when it comes to education.
Why not take action on a wider scale too? Find out more about the day of action here - http://peopleandplanet.org/gogreenweek/take-action
